1. Sherwood Sandstone Substructures & Cellar Damp
Much of Liverpool and the Wirral sits upon the Sherwood Sandstone Group. While sandstone provides a solid bedrock foundation, it is highly porous. In Georgian and Victorian properties with cellars, groundwater naturally migrates into the sandstone foundation walls.
When previous owners attempt DIY cellar waterproofing with plastic tanking paints rather than installing a drained cavity membrane system with a sump pump, moisture is forced upwards into the ground-floor brickwork, destroying plaster and timber skirting boards.
2. Maritime Wind-Driven Rain on Parapets & Chimneys
Properties in Liverpool, Crosby, and the Wirral face severe wind-driven rain off the Irish Sea. Exposed elements like high-level roof parapet walls, decorative stucco cornices, and chimney flaunching deteriorate far faster than in sheltered inland regions.

3. Georgian & Victorian Lath-and-Plaster Ceilings
